Emily's Work Experience Journey

Panel Apprenticeship

What interested you in completing work experience at Motofix?

I was interested in completing work experience at Motofix because I enjoy learning about cars and how they are repaired and maintained. I wanted to gain hands-on experience in a professional workshop, develop my practical skills and learn from experienced technicians.

What did your placement involve and what did you enjoy or learn most?

During my work experience, I spent time in the paint shop, MET (Mechanical, Electrical and Trim) bays and panel repair. This gave me a good understanding of the different stages involved in repairing damaged vehicles. I particularly enjoyed learning and carrying out plastic welding, as I found it satisfying to repair damaged parts. The placement also taught me the importance of teamwork, attention to detail, following health and safety procedures and taking pride in producing high-quality work.

How have you progressed since completing your work experience?

Since completing my work experience, I’ve progressed further than I could have imagined. The placement gave me a strong foundation and confirmed I want to pursue a career in vehicle repair. Since then, I’ve developed my practical skills, built my confidence and gained more hands-on experience in the industry. Looking back, my work experience was a key step in my journey, and I’m proud of how much I’ve learned and how far I’ve come.

What advice would you give to someone considering work experience at Motofix?

Go in ready to learn, rather than observe. Ask if you can get hands-on with the tasks the technicians show you; the more departments you experience and get involved in, the better you’ll understand the industry. Show enthusiasm, stay positive and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Your attitude and willingness to learn will make a strong impression, particularly if you advance to an interview. I’d also recommend taking notes about what you’ve learned, as these could be useful in the future.

How would you describe your experience with Motofix in one sentence?
